Traffic Light System

The interactive traffic light system is intended to provide guidance on the use of medicines across the interface between primary and secondary care.

It provides a framework for defining where clinical and therefore prescribing responsibility should lie through categorisation of individual drugs. The list is only advisory but is intended to clarify expectations of prescribing responsibility.

HOSPITAL RECOMMENDED
  • should be recommended by a specialist but can then be prescribed by a GP
PRIMARY CARE
  • can be GP initiated
WITHDRAWN
