Introducing OneLife Suffolk

Message from Public Health Suffolk

Starting today (1 April 2016), the new arrangements for an integrated healthy lifestyle service come into place for Suffolk.

The new providers, collectively known as OneLife Suffolk, will deliver services previously provided by Live Well Suffolk, East Coast Community Healthcare and Mytime Active. This means one service for the whole county with a single contact number for stop smoking services, adult weight management, health checks, child weight management and advice about physical activity.

OneLife Suffolk is commissioned by Suffolk’s public health team on the basis of a five year contract. It is a partnership between Leeds Beckett University, MoreLife, Quit 51 and Tobacco Free Futures. This collaboration represents significant experience in delivering health improvement and influencing positive behaviour change, underpinned by an emphasis on evidence based research. We’re excited about the opportunities and potential this provides for improving health and wellbeing in Suffolk.

Although the new arrangements begin today, there will be a period of transition that could result in some temporary disruption to normal service provision. However, we are working with our new providers to mitigate a reduction in service wherever possible.

Current providers have compiled waiting lists for people who need support, and have transferred care over to OneLife Suffolk on 1 April. Stop smoking support will be available from day one via general practices and pharmacies, while the full range of weight management services and physical activity support will require additional staff training, so these services will take a little longer to be ready.  We have agreed with OneLife Suffolk that we would rather take the time necessary to ensure the new services are up to a high standard than rush and offer less effective interventions. Where relevant, please continue to make referrals in the interim period as new programmes will be rolled out frequently during the next few months.

Finally, we very much look forward to working with you alongside the new providers to ensure we are delivering the best possible services in Suffolk. If you have any questions about the new arrangements, please email us at healthandwellbeing@suffolk.gov.uk
