The event is an opportunity to meet with some of the centre’s healthcare professionals including GPs and practice nurses and learn more about the work they do to help the 25,000 registered patients keep healthy and well. Experts from local health organisations will also be present on the day, offering information on health and lifestyle issues.
People will be able to chat with representatives of the county’s healthy living provider, OneLife Suffolk, and get advice and motivation to become more active and lose weight. Suffolk Family Carers will be highlighting the help available to support carers of all ages; people can get useful tips on keeping their home warm this winter and learn more about the work of health watchdog, Healthwatch Suffolk.
Local people are invited to drop in anytime between 2 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday 14 December. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3 p.m.
Dr Jonathan Knight from Two Rivers Medical Centre said: “Everyone here is exceptionally proud of the new building, from which the staff is already delivering first-class primary care services to people in north east Ipswich.
“We wanted to mark the opening of the medical centre, and, since patients are the focus of our work, it is wholly appropriate that one of our longest registered patients, Mrs Janice Taylor, who has been with us for 78 years, performs the official ceremony."
Anne Walker, chair of the Two Rivers Medical Centre Patient Participation Group said “The main aim of the afternoon is to help patients understand the surgery and to enable them to make the most of the services that are on offer. It is also a great opportunity to access useful healthy living advice from many different local organisations, and will hopefully motivate and encourage people to live healthier and more active lives in 2017.”
The event is organised by the Two Rivers Medical Centre Patient Participation Group with support from NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group.
