Our young people are the future

Young people in east Suffolk have a fantastic opportunity this half term to talk with experts and learn more about health, wellbeing and lifestyle issues that matter to them.

An event specifically aimed at those aged 11 – 14 years is taking place at Leiston Community Centre, King George’s Avenue, Leiston IP16 4JX on Thursday 16 February 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Friendly experts will be on hand to offer useful and practical information on subjects including improving physical and mental wellbeing, advice on sexual health and sexual identity, support to tackle self-esteem and body image issues, help on dealing with drug and alcohol issues and careers advice.

The event is organised by YEAH!, the Youth Engagement and Health Group of NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group.

Dr Imran Qureshi, a GP in Leiston and chairman of the clinical executive of NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group, who will present on the day, said: “Our young people are the future and by offering the right advice and support early on we can help them live healthy, fulfilling and happy lives.

“The atmosphere on the day will be relaxed and non-judgmental. We hope that young people will find this event an easy way to access the information they need to improve their lives as well as help shape future healthcare."

Organisations attending include YEAH!, Terrence Higgins Trust, East of England Ambulance Service, Turning Point, The Self Esteem Team and NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG. The event has been made possible thanks to a successful funding bid by YEAH! to the East Suffolk Youth Priorities Action Group, a project which aims to develop youth participation in the area.
